This full renovation and interior design project has been one of the most special for our studio, both because of the home’s uniqueness and the way it came back into our lives. This house holds a very dear place in our story: we first knew it as children, when it belonged to friends of our parents. When they moved to Madrid and sold it, we thought we would never experience it again. Years later, seeing it back on the market felt almost unbelievable. Visiting it again—despite the passing years and the visible wear—its magic and that special character we sensed as girls were still intact. 

The house required a complete renovation, and from the very beginning we knew our work needed to focus on preserving its essence. To achieve this, we teamed up with architect Alfonso Braquehais and builder Kiko Domínguez, who embraced the project with the same enthusiasm. The home was asking for more natural light, more open spaces, and a smoother connection with its majestic garden, which already existed but was elevated to a new level through the work of landscape designer Laura Pou. 

Our priority was to restore and highlight the elements that deserved to be preserved: the wooden beams, the handcrafted terracotta flooring, the hand-painted tiles throughout the house, and the distinctive doors and windows sourced from old convents, pieces that were already historical when the home was originally built. 

At the same time, we carried out essential transformations to adapt the property to contemporary living: we opened the kitchen to the garden, redesigned the layout of the bedrooms, and completely reimagined the main entrance, creating a visual connection that allows the charm of the entry patio to be enjoyed from inside the house. 

Being able to renovate and redesign this home more than 30 years after first falling in love with it has truly been a dream come true.
